Just a reminder: The ATLAS Writing Test is approaching quickly. Testing will begin at 8:15 each morning. Check the dates for your child below and try to make sure they arrive at school on time each of the testing days, ready to test!!!
The ATLAS Test will be administered differently from our past State mandated tests. Students will be given the WRITING portion only of the test March 5 - 5th grade; March 6 - 4th grade; March 7 - 3rd grade. The reading, math, and science will be given in April.

The Magnolia School District would like to congratulate Jodie Arnold, who recently received National Board Certification in Early Childhood education. Jodie is currently a third grade teacher at Central Elementary School.
Arnold commented, “Pursuing Board certification has been a rewarding experience that has helped me grow as a teacher. I encourage other educators in my district to pursue National Board Certification.”
The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

While main road conditions improve, less traveled roads, sidewalks and parking lots remain too icey to safely return to school. Low temperatures overnight will cause refreezing as well. We will remain closed on Thursday. Stay warm!

The love of reading is contagious, and learning opportunities abound when schools and communities partner together to focus on building a culture of reading for their students, families, and community. Because of their outstanding school/community collaboration, the Arkansas Department of Education recently recognized seven cities as R.I.S.E Communities for 2022-2023.
ADE’s Reading Initiative for Student Excellence, or R.I.S.E. Arkansas program, encourages reading beyond just the classroom and sets a goal to create communities and schools that promote a culture of reading for residents of all ages.
To be eligible for the recognition, schools and communities submitted a letter of commitment, developed an action plan, and provided a portfolio that showed evidence of implementation throughout the year. Applications were then scored using a rubric. There was one factor that each recognized community had in common: dedication to promoting the love of reading.
The only community and district to be recognized a Gold-Level winner twice is Magnolia. Magnolia submitted the maximum number of ten literacy events in their application for the award. These events promoted the importance of creating a culture and love of reading and collaboration among the schools and community. Friday, December 8, a celebration was held at the Magnolia Performing Arts Center. Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Education presented Superintendent John Ward, District Curriculum Coordinator Penny Talley, and the state and community partners with the award.
The District appreciates the support provided by the community and businesses of Magnolia. Without the donated funds and time from these collaborating partners, the literacy events and winning the R.I.S.E. Community Award would not be possible.
Central welcomed the Magnolia School Board and Mr. John Ward , Superintendent ,to our campus this morning! Student Ambassadors from each of the grades toured them through each hallway, the SAGE room, and the Central Food Pantry. They discussed the new computer programs being implemented this year, things that are happening in each grade, and how SAGE, and the Central Food Pantry operates.
We appreciate each of the School Board Members for all they do for our District, and for taking the time to visit our campus.
Central Elementary is collecting fuzzy socks and blankets for the Elders of Wentworth. Students are encouraged to bring these new, with tags items until December 15th.
If you do not have a student at Central and would like to contribute fuzzy socks or blankets, just drop them off at the office during normal school hours.
We cannot wait to see the smiles these warm fuzzies will bring to the Elders of Wentworth.
Kaylynn Sands, at the age of four, organized a Toy Drive for Arkansas Children’s Hospital for her birthday party. Today, she is a 5th grade student at Central Elementary, and her Toy Drive is still going strong. This year, Central Elementary has joined forces with her to stock the toy closet at the hospital.
During the weeks of November 13 – 17 and November 27 – 30, 2023, students are asked to bring a new, unopened, toy to their homeroom. Patients in Arkansas Children’s Hospital range from newborn to age 18. A list is available at https://5il.co/28s9u, if you need ideas for each age group. Once the toy drive has ended, a winner will be named in each grade. The winners will choose between a popcorn or ice cream sundae party.
If you do not have children who attend Central, and you would like to donate to this fabulous cause, toys can be dropped off at the front office of Central during school hours, during the dates of the drive.
